An enriching experience for students in gaining practical knowledge on the production and distribution of Milk by a State owned entity KMF (Karnataka Milk Federation). The process in the entire unit was explained by Mr. Sreekanth and Mrs. Sheelashree from the marketing division of KMF. Briefing about the organization, Mr. Sreekanth explained that KMF was the umbrella body of milk co-operatives in the state with 13 district-level milk unions and had more than 70 products under its umbrella brand ‘Nandini’. It controls about 75 per cent of the market in Karnataka and adheres to quality in all stages of milk production which includes the initial phase of sourcing to finally delivering to the customer. Having been a trusted brand in milk production, KMF – ‘Nandini’ has logged on to the e-commerce era by reaching out to people online. With the concept of ‘e-dairy’ (www.edairy.co.in), the public has the liberty to effortlessly avail all ‘Nandini’ Milk products at their doorstep.
The services are currently available in Bengaluru and will gradually be extended to other parts of state.The experience was informative and gave insights to students on the value chain involved in dairy sector.
